The story of Max Payne is a grim one indeed. No, no, not the actual character (although we’re sure any man whose face is stuck in that kind of perma-grimace can’t be all sunshine and butterflies) — instead, we’re talking about the ever-growing yarn trailing behind Max Payne 3′s development cycle. Originally scheduled to launch late in 2009, the game’s since endured delayafter delay, and all the while gamers have scarcely seen hide nor hair of its development progress.

Review of Prototype

Through the 14 hours of single-player missions, Prototype’s Manhattan essentially becomes a canvas upon which to indulge and refine Mercer’s spectacular badassery. Smash tanks with a 40-story freefall, lash yourself toward a copter with a Whipfist, eat the pilots, and rain missiles on rampaging genetic mutants from the air. And if you’re overwhelmed, let ’er rip with one of your kick-ass Devastator attacks, like the Air Tendril, which pierces everything in the same zip code with your own intestines.

G.I. Joe: A Real American Failure

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra is based off a movie, which is based off a TV show, which is based off a toy line. Somehow, that didn’t translate into something people wanted to play. The Xbox 360, which sold best, has a 4.4 average rating on Gamestats. Apparently that was enough to scare consumers away.

Madden Sales Numbers Shaky

Madden NFL 10, which launched on August 15, sold just shy of one million copies on Xbox 360 and a hair more than 650K on PlayStation 3. While the number of Xbox 360 copies sold was down just slightly from last year, PS3 increased its year-over-year sales by about 20K copies.

Shadow Complex is a Top 10 Seller

Shadow Complex, the final release of this year’s Summer of Arcade on Xbox Live, has achieved over 200k in sales so far since its release last month. That puts it, according to NPD Group sales date for the Month of August 2009, right around number six.
